Home Remedies For Colitis

Colitis is a kind of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The disease affects the digestive system and is characterized by the inflammation of the colon. The disease attacks the tissues that line the gastrointestinal system. It may have many symptoms but the prevalent are pain, tenderness, fatigue and depression.

Many foods and beverages are found to trigger the disease, including alcohol, caffeine and carbonated beverages. However, many simple and easily available home remedies are possible for colitis.

Using Cabbage

Cabbage is a very good home remedy for colitis. Patients suffering from colitis can prepare juice from cabbage and have it once daily. Alternately, raw cabbage can also be eaten to get relief from the disease.

Using Papaya

Papaya is also a very good option for the colitis sufferers. Individuals with colitis may eat ripe papaya or make its juice and drink everyday to get quick relief from colitis. Papaya helps in repairing the digestive system and keeps it fit, thereby treating colitis.

Also, papaya mixed with garlic and peppermint can be taken as a very good remedy for colitis.

Using Apple

Apple can also be used as a home remedy in case of colitis. The patients should take a boiled apple daily as intake to get relief from the disease. Apples are rich in minerals and phosphates which help in keeping the colon fit.

Using rice

Patients suffering from colitis may also use rice as a home remedy. Rice should be mixed with a glass of buttermilk to make a thick gruel and a ripe banana should be added to it. Using Pumpkin seeds

Using drumsticks

Drumsticks are an excellent home remedy for colitis. Mix one teaspoon of fresh juice of drumstick leaves with equal amounts of honey and add a glass of tender coconut water to it. This decoction can be tken twice daily for getting relief from the disease.

Using cayenne

Although a bit surprising, regular rubbing of cayenne extracts on the abdomen helps in recovery from colitis. This helps in circulation of the foods and in bowel movement which indirectly helps in repairing the colon disease.

Changing the food and other habits

It should be remembered that along with the remedies mentioned here, the patient should also change their food habits to get a quick relief from colitis. The patients may switch to rice for soothing of the colon. Also, they should take a balanced diet full of green leafy vegetables such as cabbage.

Moreover, the patient should give up spicy foods, alcohol and smoking as they hurt the digestive system. It should be made a point to do regular exercise to keep the digestive system fit and strengthen it. Some yoga asanas may also be used for treating colitis.

Healthy food habits and exercise helps in treating colitis to a considerable extent and are very good home remedies for the disease.
