Home Remedies For Corns

Corns are usually found on the dorsa of toes or fingers. It is accumulation of dead skin that takes a rough mound shape. Corns are a special type of callus that arises in the pressure bearing places of the toes.

Corns have a hard and waxy core that may cause severe pain and hence corns are usually associated with extreme pain. Corns are caused by excess pressure or friction, usually due to wearing an ill fitting shoe.

Corns are actually a fight back mechanism of the body to protect the skin area under extreme pressure by building up a mass of dead skin cells and secreting keratins. Since, this process leads to severe pain, a quick remedy is desirable for which many simple home remedies are available.

Corn home remedies: Using Indian squill

Indian squill or Urginea Indica is very useful in treating corns. For quick recovery a bulb of the herb may be roasted and applied over the corn affected area by securing a bandage. This medication may be applied at the night and removed in the morning. It will lead to gradual decrease of the size of the corn.

Using Liquorice

Liquorice is one of the most useful home remedies for corns. For preparing the medication grind three to four sticks of liquorice and add a little mustard oil or sesame oil to make a thick paste. This paste may be directly applied on the corns. It softens the hard skins gradually and decreases the size of the corn.

Using Green Figs

Green figs can also be used as a remedy for corns. For applying extract the juice of the figs and apply over the affected area. While applying the juice half a teaspoonful juice should be taken and it should be applied two to three times daily. Green figs are useful for softening of corns and reducing their size.

Using Chalk Powder

Chalk powder may also be used as a home remedy for corns. A chalk should be ground into powder and a paste should be made using this powder in water. This paste can be applied over the affected area to get relief from corns.

Using aspirin tablets

Aspirin tablets may also come handy in the treatment of corns. For making the medicine, crush five to six aspirin tablets into powder and add half teaspoonful each of lemon juice and water. Then apply the paste on the affected areas and cover the foot in a plastic bag.

Cover this with a warm towel and leave idle for 10 minutes. After unwrapping rub the area with pumice stone. This will make all the hard skins come loose and then flake away. This way, the whole corn can be removed.

Using Lemon

Lemon is a very useful remedy for corns. A piece of lemon may be tied in the night over the affected area and removed in the morning. The acid content in lemon reacts with the callus and makes it soft and removable. Lemon is also one of the most used remedies for corns.

Using Papaya

Raw papaya juice may also be used for the treatment of corns. Half a teaspoonful of the juice extracted from raw papaya may be applied on the affected area two to three times daily.

Using plastic bags

Plastic bags can also be used to get relief from the hardness and pain arising due to corns. Cover the foot with a plastic bag and wear a sock over it during the night. Remove the bag in the morning and with the help of a firm brush or hard towel, remove as much callus as possible. This can be done regularly to control a heel callus.

Using Epsom salts

Epsom salt can also be used to treat corns. Mix a little Epsom salt with warm water and soak the affected feet in it. This will help making the corn soft and removable.

Although corns are very painful and long lasting, using these simple home remedies one can easily get rid of the painful situation. Moreover, proper care should be taken to keep the toes remain pressure free while wearing shoes or sandals.
